Shailene Garnett is a Canadian actress, known for her work on the feature Sons of God, which premiered on French digital-media startup Blackpills, and for her role as "Maureen" on the Freeform fan-favorite series Shadowhunters. She previously had recurring arcs on the Canadian series Between and the digital series Teenagers. Shailene's extensive list of television credits includes roles on Incorporated, Single Ladies, Covert Affairs, and Guillermo del Toro's FX series The Strain.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Shailene Garnett spent her childhood in both Montreal and Toronto. She started acting in 2012 and made her film debut a year later in Matt Johnson’s feature film, The Dirties. She has had supporting roles in several series including the Freeform fan-favorite Shadowhunters and the Netflix Original series Between. Shailene recently appeared in Amazon’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as Teresa Lowe, an American volunteer doctor who was held hostage by ISIS.
Shailene has an extensive background in early childhood education. She worked in an elementary school in Quebec as an English teacher’s assistant-turned-teacher prior to being discovered by her first agent. Shailene is an avid traveller and her friends call her Carmen, named after the 1980’s fictional character, Carmen San Diego.
As of 2019, Shailene portrays Iris Beals in the CBC television series Diggstown. A second season was announced in May 2019, following the conclusion of the first season.
