Murdoch Mysteries has been renewed for its Season 18 on CBC. On May 23, 2024, Yannick Bisson posted that Season 18 was in pre-production and filming is close to getting off the ground.
There was growing tensions within the Canadian television industry as talks between the country’s writers and producers over a new Independent Production Agreement. It was ratified just in time as the peak production time for a raft of Canadian series prepares to begin filming, including Murdoch Mysteries (CBC).
Fans concerned about the show coming to a close any time soon need not worry as Bisson and Mitchell say they’re having too much fun to stop. Show-runner Peter Mitchell recently stated, “We’ve got history on our side; there’s no shortage of stories.”
Murdochians (fans of the series) are worried that the promotion and career change for both Brackenreid and Dr. Ogden may portend major changes in Season 18 but this has yet to be confirmed so Season 17's finale cliff-hanger remains in play.
Returning to Hamilton, Murdoch Mysteries production started in the Dundas Valley to shoot its first scenes for Season 18 about the War of 1812 battle; There were two encampments in a field near the parking lot, one with a British flag and the other with an American flag. The show is known for shooting its second episode first, then shooting its first episode. Jonny Harris posted a photo on June 3 on social media of Crabtree dressed in a British soldier’s uniform — a red coat — (ep.1801) which he said was taken at Dundas Valley Conservation Area.

On July 27, 2024, Victoria Symphony unveils an exciting 2024/25 Season which includes Murdoch Mysteries in Concert, Nov. 2 and 3 at the Royal Theatre with MM special guests and hosted by MM composer Robert Carli.
According to Bernie Fletcher of Beach Metro, Julia Ogden will be in Season 18 and MM series has filmed in Kitchener as well as Hamilton, Cambridge, Kingston Pen, and Scarborough but not Balmy Beach, yet. Balmy Beach Club is the home away from home for Brit Thomas Craig.
MM Production returns to Cobourg to film from September 10 to 12. Cobourg has been a popular location for filming of scenes for previous seasons, especially Victoria Hall which was built in the mid-19th century.
MM Production team returns to Kingston for the fourth time (Sept. 30 - Oct. 3, 2024) to film its 300th episode (ep.1810/13) which usually includes the three Christmas specials in their total count.
The 300th episode will see Detective Murdoch visit the UK to see his wife, Dr. Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy), as they celebrate their wedding anniversary.
According to OvationTV: S18 will include Murdoch as a bodyguard for a silent film star (Siobhan Murphy) and thrown into a cinematic adventure himself; foiling a theft of the world’s largest ruby; proving the veracity of a ‘Missing Link’ skull found in Milton, Ontario; and a holiday episode celebrating the ‘misfits’ and 'singletons'. It will also include episodes with mysteries rooted in the social issues of the time, such as a worker’s strike at a factory; an early instance of low-income housing; competing public hydro projects; and immigrants trying to purchase land in the ‘paradise’ of the wilds of Canada.
