Murdoch Mysteries premiered Season 17 (24x60; Shaftesbury) October 2, 2023 on CBC and CBC Gem.
On June 05, 2023, City of Belleville officially announced in a news release location filming will take place primarily on Bridge Street East between Front Street and Church Street, City Hall and Market Square, Glanmore National Historic Site and the Belleville Armouries. The scheduled filming continued despite the smokey conditions caused by the worst wildfire season in Canadian history.
Filming at the Muskoka Steamships and Discovery Centre between June 12 and 15, also had booked the exclusive use of their ship chartered for a full day of filming out on the water.
The iconic area in Rockwood (Guelph/Eramosa) served as a backdrop with filming set for July 20, 21, 22 and 24 including some night time filming as late as 2 a.m. within the conservation area. Preparation work was set to take place on July 17 to 19, 2023. The notification states vehicles and film equipment were located on private property, Rockwood Centennial Public School, and Valley Road.
On July 14, Shaftesbury Films CEO Christina Jennings stated the SAG strike would not impact Canadian shows with Canadian casts, such as Shaftesbury’s Murdoch Mysteries and “Hudson & Rex,” both currently shooting.
On July 26, 2023, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra announced Murdoch Mysteries: In Concert as one of the additional six concerts to the previously released line-up for their 2023-24 concert season.
Season 17's Christmas episode was the last one to air in 2023 and resumed airing on New Years Day 2024, as filming for the season continues through February 2024.
On January 24, 2024, Cobourg’s municipal department is advising residents of temporary road closures Jan. 31 on King Street for Murdoch Mysteries filming. MM production company will be arriving on Jan. 30 and staying until Feb. 1, 2024. Filming locations will include the exterior of Victoria Hall (55 King St. West), as well as Second Street and Third Street.
George Crabtree senior returns (ep.1713) and special guests Margaret Atwood, Meegwun Fairbrother, and Ashley Leggat appear together in the treasure adventure (ep.1715).

At the Why Is Everybody Singing? theatre event, Peter Mitchell revealed that the season will end on a cliffhanger.
