• Pearl Redmond was the girlfriend of Jake Barker, until he fell in love with Eva, another employee of the store.
• When Preston Monk, manager of the ladies-wear department hired Geralt Biskin, a private detective, to look in to the past of Eva Pearce, she knows that they will discover that she was once a prostitute. She tells Jake Barker to kill Mr. Monk, and burn the file with the incriminating details. Miss Redmond finds out and tells Jake that she will not tell anyone what he did if he will be her boyfriend again. However, Jake laughs at her. She decides to kill Jake and frame Eva for the murder.
• While Murdoch is sure that Eva killed Jake, he looks for fingermarks on the gun that killed him, but instead find Pearl's fingermarks. He promptly arrests her and she confesses to everything.
