Nathan Turnblow is an inmate at the Don Jail. Striking a partnership with the "reformed" Dr. Robinson, Turnblow would secretly escape the jail through a chimney in his office to commit crimes before returning to the jail, the last place the constabulary would think to look. After a robbery-homicide with a pawn broker, as well as knifing a witness, Louise Butler, the partners-in-crime heard that inmate Reg Pullen, had arranged a meeting with an old friend of his, Inspector Thomas Brackenreid. Thinking that Pullen was onto their scheme and was about to expose it to Brackenreid, Turnblow murdered Pullen and made it look like he hung himself. Later, another inmate attempted to talk to Brackenreid, but Turnblow caught him and fed him a glass eye the pawn broker had acquired before killing him.

Turnblow later overheard Brackenreid and Murdoch mention to Robinson that Louise had survived and was at the asylum, compelling him to leave to silence her before she could identity him and his cohorts. Disguised as a nurse, Turnblow attempted to finish off Louise, but was hit over the head by Julia Odgen, who helped Louise flee. Recovering, Turnblow cornered the two women, but was stopped by Murdoch. After extraction confessions over Turnblow's murder, Murdoch believed it enough to have both him and Robinson hung.
