"Murdoch and the Sonic Boom" is the seventh episode of the sixteenth season of Murdoch Mysteries and the two hundred forty-sixth episode of the series (not including the three stand-alone holiday specials). It first aired on October 24, 2022.

Summary

Terrence Meyers utilizes Station House No. 4 for a clandestine meeting between President Taft and Prime Minister Laurier. As he leaves, a suspicious death is reported at the telegraph office, and soon more people are reporting unexplained symptoms.

  • This episode takes place in Toronto 1910 – Edward VII (Albert Edward;1841-1910) is King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and of the British Dominions beyond the Seas.
  • William Howard Taft was elected the 27th President of the United States (1909-1913) and later became the tenth Chief Justice of the United States.
  • In 1907, Alexander Graham Bell (1847–1922) founded the Aerial Experiment Association, which made significant progress in aircraft design and control and contributed to the career of pioneer aviator Glenn Hammond Curtiss. The AEA's Silver Dart makes the first flight of a heavier-than-air machine in Canada in 1909.

Trivia

  • The storyline of this episode is a possible allusion to Havana Syndrome, a mysterious illness that was reported to have affected a number of US and Canadian government and military officials as well as their families between 2016 and 2017, with similar symptoms from pain and ringing in the ears to cognitive dysfunction.
