Murdoch Mysteries Wiki Guidelines

Be nice. Being friendly and nice goes a long way, no matter where you are. Say hello to others, provide help where you can, and ask others if you need assistance. Please do not use another MM Editors personalized avatar image, select one uniquely your own.

Do follow community guidelines for formatting: This community has established formatting, processes, conventions, and policy – it’s important to adhere to them.

Ask for help. If you are confused or need help, just ask the Content Moderator or Admin.

Don't plagiarize content. If you are bringing content to FANDOM or taking it from here (or to another site), please remember to cite the authors properly. Don't assume that everything on the Internet is open for the taking. Make sure you have permission to use something before you copy it, and follow the rules for attribution when you do reuse. Everyone likes credit for their hard work!

Don't use the wiki to spam your own links. Wikis are a great place to build content on a specific topic, not a place to spam links to your latest product or to post non-relevant material. Spam will be removed, so please don't add it to begin with.

Don't feed the trolls. This means that every time you respond to those who try to ruin your work, you are giving them what they want. The more you do that, the more they will be back for more. It's best to be calm, and limit contact with vandals. The less attention they get, the more likely they are to move on. Don't play games with the vandals as this makes it more fun for them.

Don't make personal attacks. Don't make it personal, or post personal information. Wikis are meant to be a place to collaborate with others on topics that excite you. Pages meant just as an attack on someone will be removed. This includes content posted in articles and messages to other users.

Always remember online communities still involve real people; Even though you are online, this is still a community made up of real people. Mean comments, aggressive behavior, and vandalism all affect real people. If you wouldn't say it in person, don't say it here. If it breaks the Terms of Use, please don't say it at all.

General Do Not Rules

  • Do not sign-up to use the profile page and message wall(s) as 'free space' to do with what you will without principally contributing to normal articles in the main namespace. If you do not contribute to normal articles you will not be considered an active nor trusted contributor by this wiki community or Fandom. Contribute to the wiki in line with the established processes and conventions. Need help? Ask an Administrator or Content Moderator!
  • Do not engage in self-promotion. The wiki is a collaborative community resource for the topic at hand. It is NOT a free place to advertise your related website, YouTube channel, blog, social media account, and this includes fan-fiction spamming as well. Have a question about whether your link would be welcome? Ask an administrator!
  • Do not make personal attacks on other people. If you need to criticize another user’s argument, do so without attacking them as a person. Do not use bigoted language, including slurs which degrade another person or group of people based on gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, etc.
  • Disrupting the wiki with “edit warring” over differing opinions of a topic with another user or group of users is not productive and is not welcome here or on Fandom.
  • Do not harass other users. If somebody asks you to stop posting certain content on their wall or user talk page, respect their wishes. It is their space.
  • Do not hound, bait, or troll: Friendly debate and conversation can be useful tools in creating a resourceful wiki, but deliberately pushing others to the point of breaching civility is not allowed.
  • Do not threaten harm or spam/vandalism to other users and wikis. If you see anyone threatening another person or wiki, report to an active Administrator.

Blocking rules

Users may be blocked on this wiki for the following reasons:

  • Not adhering to this wiki's Editing Guidelines, established processes, conventions, and policy.
  • Recurring vandalism or spamming, including fan fiction spamming.
  • Deliberately misgendering (i.e. using the wrong pronouns) and otherwise disrespecting people's stated facts about their person and identity.
  • Recurring harassment, including hounding, personal or legal threats, posting of personal information, repeated messaging and ignoring requests to desist or communications from the Admin team.
  • Continual edit warring and/or inventing information with no basis in the verifiable facts
  • Signing up to use the user profile page as a free place without principally contributing to normal articles in the main namespace.
  • Making a personal attack on another user.
  • Not responding in a timely manner to Admin or Content Moderator requests, refusing to be in communication (being a rogue editor) with the Admin team.
  • Sockpuppetry. Abusing multiple accounts; This is what vandals do when they're attacking a wiki.
  • Asking other users personal information such as age, location, etc.

Blocks will begin at 3 days and will increase depending on the number of offenses and/or type of offense. If you feel you have been blocked unfairly, you can reach out to an Administrator.

Page protection rules

The majority of pages on this wiki are open to all Fandom users who are logged-in to encourage all registered users to edit. While all articles are not unprotected for newly signed-up contributors it is a temporary measure (3-4 days) to discourage vandalism and spamming. Articles are protected if there is a specific need, such as but not limited to:

  • High traffic pages/articles
  • Vandalism has persisted over a long period of time
  • Stop an edit war
  • Manage spoiler information related to the newest season
  • Protect the proper display of the wiki (i.e. wiki logo, frequently used templates, the main page, policy pages, etc.)
  • Resolve a format and/or design issue, including underneath-the-hood housekeeping.

To request an article be protected or request access to a protected article, or to have the protection level be reviewed, please contact an Administrator or Content Moderator on their Message Wall.

User Rights Pathway

An active share in the stewardship of this wiki is a commitment: Good faith users can be put forward to the active Bureaucrat by the community to become an Admin, Moderator, or another position on this wiki.

  • Only users who have been consistently active on this wiki for 6 months or more and are trusted editors are eligible. Users are counted as active when they have 100 or more current edits.
  • Any user can recommend another user. However, users who have been previously blocked in the past may be automatically rejected for consideration.
  • Nominations are approved by the Admin Team, based on the general requirements set forth by the Admin Team, this wiki, and Fandom.
  • The community and/or the Bureaucrat can set a term length - an amount of time that a user may be an Admin (or other position) before they will be asked to go for re-election. The term length can change, but it should be a reasonable amount of time (for example, 1 week is too short, and 10 years is too long.)

This policy has been reviewed and/or updated by the Admin Team (9/25/2022).
