Louise Hawkins married Arthur Conan Doyle in 1885. She suffered from Consumption. Doyle traveled the world seeking a cure for the disease. In 1895 he visited Toronto where he had heard an Asian technique called cupping was being practiced.
Doyle's nickname for his wife was "Touie."
