Lillian Moss is introduced in Season 8 of Murdoch Mysteries, portrayed by Sara Mitich.

Biography[]

Lillian was disowned by her family because she refused to marry "the man they picked out for me". It is revealed quite early on that she is lesbian, and that she is extremely attracted to Dr. Emily Grace. Whether or not Emily would return—or even be aware of—that attraction was left an open question until the episode Toronto's Girl Problem, which concluded with the beginnings of a very passionate romance between the pair.

In Season 9's episode, Double Life, Lillian Moss is revealed to be an assumed name. Her real name is Helen Walker. In this episode, however, Lillian is murdered - days before she and Dr. Grace were supposed to leave for London. Later in the episode it is revealed that she was in an affair with Gladys Holler, a married woman. When Gladys' husband, Joe, found out, he lured them onto his boat, the Gladys, where after Gladys passed out from a few drinks, allowing Joe to strangle Helen. Gladys woke up before he could kill her and struck him over the head with an oar, knocking him out. The two women then rolled his body over the side, leaving him for dead. Knowing that the police would not believe their version of events, Helen staged the boating accident and she and Gladys separated. She told the police that the Gladys hit a rock and sank and she alone survived. Nicholas Horseley, Gladys' brother, believed that Helen killed the Hollers after Gladys decided to break up with her.

Helen then told Gladys that they couldn't see each other anymore. She then moved to Toronto and changed her name to Lillian Moss. However, Gladys couldn't stay away from Lillian and attempted to resume the relationship, but by then Lillian was already in love with Emily.

Lillian's murderer is later revealed to be Joe, who had survived the attempt on his life and went into hiding. Joe confronted Lillian, demanding to know where Gladys is. When Lillian refused, Joe killed her.
