The Graphizer was created by Murdoch to solve a mystery in Season 4. Murdoch used this device to evaluate sound waves underwater – what we’d call sonar today – in Confederate Treasure, and we’ve seen it evolve to solve future cases, notably in Journey to the Centre of Toronto.

Murdoch transforms his Graphizer concept into a Seismometer (coined by David Milne-Home, 1841) based on the instrument that measure motion of the ground, including those of seismic waves generated by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other seismic sources, designed by Scottish physicist James David Forbes.
