Frank Oliver, (1853-1933), newspaper publisher, brought the first printing press to Edmonton and in 1880 founded the Edmonton Bulletin which he published until 1923, introduced in Season 12 of Murdoch Mysteries, portrayed by Thomas Rickert.


Frank Oliver was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the North-West Territories in 1888 and 1894. He sat in the House of Commons as a Liberal under Sir Wilfrid Laurier (1896-1917) and was minister of the interior and superintendent general of Indian affairs 1905-11. As the former, he continued the immigration policies of Sir Clifford SIFTON who resigned from Cabinet on 27 February 1905, following a dispute with Prime Minister Laurier over school policy for Alberta and Saskatchewan.
