- Alice was at an outdoor demonstration of the new alternating current held by Allen Fawkes (her current beau) when she is murdered by an ingenious sabotage of the electrical equipment. In investigating her murder, William Murdoch discovers that Alice is pregnant and the father is Fawkes. Fawkes had murdered Alice in order to keep her quiet about the pregnancy, as he is set to marry into a well-off family very soon.
